General Relativistic Energy Conditions: The Hubble expansion in the epoch of galaxy formation

چکیده

The energy conditions of Einstein gravity (classical general relativity) are designed to extract as much information as possible from classical general relativity without enforcing a particular equation of state for the stress-energy. This systematic avoidance of the need to specify a particular equation of state is particularly useful in a cosmological setting — since the equation of state for the cosmological fluid in a Friedmann–Robertson– Walker type universe is extremely uncertain. I shall show that the energy conditions provide simple and robust bounds on the behaviour of both the density and look-back time as a function of red-shift. I shall show that current observations suggest that the so-called strong energy condition (SEC) is violated sometime between the epoch of galaxy formation and the present. This implies that no possible combination of “normal” matter is capable of fitting the observational data. PACS: 98.80.-k; 98.80.Bp; 98.80.Hw; 04.90.+e † E-mail: [email protected]

Stellar Populations in the Central Galaxies of Fossil Groups

It is inferred from the symmetrical and luminous X-ray emission of fossil groups that they are mature, relaxed galaxy systems. Cosmological simulations and observations focusing on their dark halo and inter-galactic medium properties confirm their early formation. Recent photometric observations suggest that, unlike the majority of non-fossil brightest group galaxies (BGGs), the central early-t...

Solutions to the tethered galaxy problem in an expanding universe and the observation of receding blueshifted objects

We use the dynamics of a galaxy, set up initially at a constant proper distance from an observer, to derive and illustrate two counter-intuitive general relativistic results. Although the galaxy does gradually join the expansion of the universe ~Hubble flow!, it does not necessarily recede from us. In particular, in the currently favored cosmological model, which includes a cosmological constan...

Two-Body Orbit Expansion Due to Time-Dependent Relative Acceleration Rate of the Cosmological Scale Factor

By phenomenologically assuming a slow temporal variation of the percent acceleration rate S̈S−1 of the cosmic scale factor S(t), it is shown that the orbit of a local binary undergoes a secular expansion. To first order in the power expansion of S̈S−1 around the present epoch t0, a non-vanishing shift per orbit ⟨∆r⟩ of the two-body relative distance r occurs for eccentric trajectories. A general ...

Structure formation and generalized second law of thermodynamics in some viable f(R)-gravity models

We investigate the growth of matter density perturbations as well as the generalized second law (GSL) of thermodynamics in the framework of f(R)-gravity. We consider a spatially flat FRW universe filled with the pressureless matter and radiation which is enclosed by the dynamical apparent horizon with the Hawking temperature. For some viable f(R) models containing the Starobinsky, Hu-Sawicki, Exp...

Formation of Large Structures in the Acceleration Universe with a Hybrid Expansion Law

In the current paper, we have studied the effect of dark energy on for-mation where dark energy exists in the background. For this purpose, we used both WMAP9 and Planck data to study how the radius changes with redshift in these mod-els. We used different data sets to fix the cosmological parameters to obtain a solution for a spherical region under collapse. The mechanism of structure formation f...
